Mammograms
Thank you for choosing Gove County Medical Center and United Radiology Group for your breast health care needs. We are pleased to offer two imaging options for your mammogram.
3D Mammography
During 3D mammography, the breast is compressed slightly longer than usual, with 1-millimeter slices of the entire breast, resulting in improved diagnostic accuracy. The 3D mammogram is performed at the same time as the 2D mammogram, resulting in slightly higher radiation dose. However, the dose is safely below the FDA-specified limit.
There are often delays from the time new technology is introduced until Medicare and private insurance companies establish reimbursement for these services. It is important for you to understand that, currently some insurance companies do not cover the cost of 3D mammography.
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is FDA-approved mammography technology that provides a 3-dimensional (3D) image of the breast. In most cases, 3D images have been shown to be superior to conventional 2-dimensional (2D) digital mammography images. According to the American College of Radiology 3D imaging reduces recall rates by 8-15% and increases cancer detection rates by 28%.
Gove County Medical Center and United Radiology Group want you to make an informed decision about whether or not you wish to receive these services. Please feel free to discuss your options with your healthcare provider.
