Dr. Anna Rempel
Anna Rempel
Family Practice, Obstetrics
Dr. Anna Rempel graduated high school in Maize, KS after moving around a lot in her early years, with her father in the Air Force. Dr. Anna played softball in college at Newman University. When Dr. Anna isn’t curled up with a book, she also enjoys the outdoors, gardening, biking and taking their dog Tessa for a walk. Dr. Anna especially enjoys women’s health, obstetrics and mental health. Dr. Anna and Dr. Scott are excited to be living in Quinter and getting to know the surrounding communities. They have begun their practice at Bluestem Medical and are currently seeing patients and accepting new patients.

Dr. Doug Gruenbacher

Dr. Doug was born and raised in Andale, Kansas. Dr. Doug has practiced in Quinter, Kansas since 2002 as a partner at Bluestem Medical and as a staff member at Gove County Medical Center. He is a preceptor for University of Kansas Medical Center in Northwest Kansas preceptorship program and other rural programs associated with medical education in this area. Dr. Doug was selected by the AAFP to be the family physician Torchbearer in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay in England. He is the recipient of the 2010 University of Kansas Preceptor of Year Award and is highly involved in the KAFP Faces in Family Medicine program. Dr. Doug was the 67th president of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Doug and his wife, Dr. Shelly Gruenbacher have four children and are involved in various youth sports, church, 4-H and many other community events. They were a vital part in the building of a community wellness center that supports their love of exercise and pursuit of advocating healthy lifestyles. Dr. Doug is an avid KU fan and also enjoys marathons and snowboarding.

Glenda Wheeler APRN-BC
Glenda Wheeler
Advance Practice Registered Nurse
Glenda is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Glenda was born in Livermore, California and raised in Wichita, Kansas. She brings an expertise as a Kansas Heart and Stroke Champion Provider and enjoys minor procedures such as suturing, incision and drainages of abscesses, skin biopsies, etc.,. Glenda graduated from Wichita East High School as a member of the National Honor Society. She went on to study at the registered nursing program at North Central Kansas Community College where she became the Vice President of Nursing Student Body. In 2003, she graduated with the highest honors and an Associate of Science degree at Barton County Community College. In 2004, Glenda graduated magna cum laude from the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Fort Hays State University. In 2013, she received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State University. Glenda’s professional career has offered a broad range of experiences. Upon entering the medical field she worked as a registered nurse on the surgical unit at Hays Medical Center. She then advanced to a leadership role as Nurse Director for the Hospitalist group while also enjoying the role of Peripheral IV Central Catheter specialist at Hays Medical Center. She then took on a challenging position in the adolescent inpatient psychiatric hospital at KVC Hospital in Hays, Kansas. She then performed the multitude of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency roles of a registered nurse at Trego Medical Center in Wakeeney, Kansas. Wanting to advance her skillset further she enrolled in the nurse practitioner program at Fort Hays State University and engaged in preceptorships at United Methodist Mexican American Ministries in Garden City, Hays Medical Center in Hays, and Wakeeney Family Health Care in Wakeeney. She brings to well-rounded background to the practice. Glenda now lives in Hays with her husband Matthew. She has two sons, Matthew, who lives in Wichita, and Blake, who lives in Hays. When not remodeling homes and rooms, Glenda relaxes by fishing, traveling, walking, and visiting antique shows.

Dr. Michael Machen

Dr. Machen was born in Smith Center, Kansas, and grew up in Concordia, Kansas. Dr. Machen has practiced in Quinter, Kansas since 1986 as a partner at Bluestem Medical and as a staff member at Gove County Medical Center. He also provides care at Sheridan County Clinic. Along with his practice, he also serves as the Network Site Director for the University of Kansas Medical Center in Northwest Kansas and assists in directing the preceptorship program and rural programs associated with medical education in this area. Dr. Machen received the Doug Parks Rural Preceptor Award from KUMC-Wichita in 1999. He received the KAFP Exemplary Teacher Award, part-time category in 2005 and then won the national award for Exemplary Teacher part-time category with the American Academy of Family Practice in 2005. He was also awarded the Rural Preceptor of the Year for the State of Kansas in 2008. In 2014, he received the Ad Astra Outstanding Volunteer Award and in 2015 he was the 2015 KEMSA Physician of the Year. Dr. Machen was awarded the Kansas Academy of Family Practice Physician of the Year award in 2018. Dr. Machen and his wife, Susan have four children, three grandsons and a granddaughter. Samantha Alsop is a vascular surgeon at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Benjamin is a KU graduate and now an international tax consultant in Kansas City, Alexandra is a KU graduate with her MPH from Emory University and a PhD in microbiology from KUMC, and Edward is a 2nd year medical student at KUMC. Dr. Machen is an avid KU fan and enjoys hunting and fishing.

Scott Rempel was born and raised in Newton, Kansas. In his spare time, Dr. Scott enjoys anything that has to do with being in the mountains (usually Colorado), hunting, running and being outside whenever possible. Dr. Scott and his wife Dr. Anna are excited to be living in Quinter and getting to know the surrounding communities. They have begun their practice at Bluestem Medical and are currently seeing patients and accepting new patients.

Dr. Shelly was raised in Stockton, Kansas. Dr. Shelly has practiced in Quinter, Kansas since 2002 as a partner at Bluestem Medical and as a staff member at Gove County Medical Center. She is a preceptor for University of Kansas Medical Center in Northwest Kansas preceptorship program and other rural programs associated with medical education in this area. She regularly mentors and teaches 1st-4th year medical students and pre-med students. Dr. Shelly received the 2010 Doug Parks, MD Community Preceptor Teaching Award. She is active on the KAFP Foundation Board and is also a member of the KU Medical Alumni Board. Dr. Shelly and her husband, Dr. Doug Gruenbacher have four children and are involved in various youth sports, church, 4-H and many other community events. They were a vital part in the building of a community wellness center that supports their love of exercise and pursuit of advocating healthy lifestyles. Dr. Shelly is an avid KU fan and also enjoys running and skiing.
